I started my blog a couple of weeks after I moved to the UK. It was something that I planned before coming here as I already had 2 blogs at that time, one for the dog, and one with recipes. I wanted an easy way to keep in touch with family and friends so I’ve started the blog. After pondering, I decided to write in English because it would be accessible for the new friends and acquaintances in the UK and almost all my friends are fluent in English anyway.
My first post was about our journey to the UK, a very long drive, with the dog, the car bursting with cookbooks, pans and some clothes. I blogged without an editorial schedule and as a result my archive is not that extensive.
A couple of years I wrote but not constantly and now I regret it. I didn’t bother to blog about a few of the interesting places I’ve been to and now I can’t remember when it was. If I want to look at the pictures I have to get them from the external hard drive and I have no idea where is the cable to connect it. This made me change the purpose of the blog: from keeping in touch to write it as a diary.
Now I look in my archives quite often. At the beginning of every month I check out how the weather was in the last years. I also want to make sure I’m not missing on annual events.
The next step was to give it a new look and move to my own domain from blogspot. I should have done that from the beginning. Having a clear structure made me realize I didn’t blog enough about some things I love, like style. That was strange, as I do love the photo shoots. I’ve posted more recipes and more stories of places we’ve been to.
I started reading a lot of blogs as I found bloglovin; interesting content and I saw how a lot of bloggers built real life relationships with each other. I had no idea this can happen because I always felt blogging is online and the step to offline is not an easy one to make. I thought I should give it a try and I started promoting it in a softy-softy approach. It was such a great idea.
I’ve been to a blogging event in February and it was great. I’ll go to another one in July. I love it.
I mentioned in post this week that I’m planning new things for my blog. The design will change slightly and I’ll have a new blog for cooking. I don’t want the recipes to take over, so I’ll give them a new and special place. My cooking changed so much in the last years that I feel I need a new blog for them.
Great read! I think we all have our own unique reasons for blogging, but it’s not often we actually share those in blog posts. Or at least I haven’t seen many. All the best x
Nice post Anca! I didn’t blog that much for a few years which I regret too but that was because I was doing teacher training. I like your blog and am glad to have found it.
Why am I the only one who knew you were Romanian??? X
..not because of your exemplary fluency, I hasten to add!!!!
Thank you Kezzie x I don’t talk a lot about Romania and it’s easy to miss that 🙂
That’s a surprise and a welcoming one, too!~ What’s your first language, then? You blog in whatever language is comfortable for you!
Thank you Michelle x I’m Romanian. I must admit it’s easier for me to write in English, maybe it’s strange, I don’t know why.
I didn’t realise you weren’t English! What’s your first language?
Corinne x
Thank you Corinne, that’s such a nice compliment x My first language is Romanian 🙂
Hello Anca, I just found your blog, interesting that you actually moved by car from Romania? That’s quite a way to go. 🙂
Hi Susanne. It was a long way, 3600 km in 3 days, but it was the best way to travel with the dog so it was worth it 🙂
