Blackpool Airshow 2015

The first official airshow in UK was hosted at Blackpool in 1909. Now is an annual event for two days. The airplanes used for the aerobatic stunts and fly-bys are no longer in commission. In the show there are both military and civilian airplanes.

The event can be seen from the seafront and it’s free. I went to see the Sunday display, but it took us 40 minutes more on the motorway, parking was a nightmare as it was so crowded and we’ve ended up missing half of the show. As the show lasted for 3 hours on Sunday we were able to see plenty anyway. Next year I’m going to organize things better. I’m going to take a picnic blanket and maybe a picnic too, we’ll get there 30 minutes before the show to get a good parking spot.

The first one we saw on the promenade was a fighter from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Spitfire.

Boeing Chinook is a tandem rotor helicopter that was used by the RAF in the Falklands War, the Balkans and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Their maneuverability was amazing, it was one of the best displays at the show.

The Pitts Special was the next airplane we’ve seen. It has won more aerobatic contests than any other aircraft type.

The RV8tors (love the name) is an aerobatic and high performance 2 seat aircraft and it’s an affordable homebuilt aircraft.

The best part of the show are the famous RAF Red Arrows and they ended the show. Everybody knows of the RAF Red Arrows and I was excited to see them.

Everybody was cheering when we saw the Red Arrows approaching the Tower.

They were amazing, flying in different formations, like a diamond or a plane and the mirror.

The show was over for the day. A new flying display took place on Monday, but we couldn’t go to see it. Next year we are going to see the show again, is so impressive.

This was hubby’s very subtle way to tell me we need a new lens… a few thousands pounds lens.

There are also displays with real airplanes and for a small fee people could get in the cockpit and take pictures of themselves. As it was a huge queue we’ve decided to skip it.

There were stalls with costumes for kids to buy, I thought they are amazing. Then I saw this little guy looked so cute in it.

  1. Looks like a really fun day out! Oh my gosh, I can’t believe that heart in the sky, that’s pretty cool 🙂 jeez, that’s a massive lens that the guy had!! Makes all other camera lenses look minute, haha 🙂

    1. It was amazing, I want to go next year too. I thought it will get boring, but there were only a few minutes break between shows and there were so many different airplanes and it was great. And, of course, the lens :))
