Date night at Printworks, Manchester

On Monday, my husband and I had a date night at Printworks, Manchester*. It’s been a while since we had a proper night out as we were busy with the holidays and work. This time of year is very busy for us.
I remember when I saw Printworks for the first time. While my husband went to Manchester a few times, for me it was the first time, walking around the city with some friends that were showing us the city. I remember thinking Printworks was a lovely place and that I want to go back. As it happens, if we are not busy with work, we are away on a trip. So Printworks ended up on the ever-growing list of places I want to go to but kept postponing, until now.

As the name suggests it, The Printworks was a Victorian printing house, built in 1873. It was a printing house for newspapers until the 1980s. As all Victorian buildings, the architecture is beautiful. It was redeveloped during the 2000s and now it’s a hub for restaurants, there one can find UK’s largest cinema, there are bars and a gym. I would say it’s the perfect place for a date night, especially for dinner&movie.

For our date night, I chose Wagamama. The main reason for picking it up was the amount of veggie options they have. We got a few dishes to try and I loved them.

We had yasai gyoza with a sauce and I loved them. I think I had 3 or 4 of them even if it was what my husband had ordered. He also chose yasai pad thai. They are rice noodles in sauce with egg, beansprounts, veggies, herbs and tofu. We both liked his dish.
I picked the shiitake donburi, it’s a shiitake mushrooms and broccoli omelette with brown rice. I loved it. The mushrooms were delicious, perfectly cooked. It was the first time I had omelette with rice, like this and it’s something I will like to have again. I also ordered edamame, steamed beans with chilli garlic salt. I loved those too, my husband loved them too. It’s something I will prepare at home.

I managed to use the chopsticks after getting some tips from the lady that served us. I have the Instagram picture to prove it. I was so excited that I bought chopsticks to learn at home.

The lady told us about their juices. They are more like a smoothie than a juice and they are delicious. These are the large glasses. I got the Blueberry spice that has blueberry, apple, carrot and ginger and my husband picked the Clean green with
kiwi, avocado and apple. We both liked both juices. There are so many other options that I would have to visit Wagamama again to try the rest.

We had dessert too, but only one to share as we were full from all that delicious food we had. Banana katsu was an obvious choice for us, it’s banana in panko breadcrumbs with a scoop of salted caramel ice cream. The banana was hot and with the cold ice cream it was amazing. My husband said next time we are at Wagamama he will order banana katsu for starters and dessert.

After that lovely meal, we went to ODEON for a movie. It was hard to pick a movie suitable for date-night, as the ones that looked interesting had some violence. It was also a good way to make my husband watch a sad movie.

I picked Manchester by the Sea and it was an emotional and beautiful drama. I loved how the movie was filmed too. I would recommend this movie, for me it was a 10 out of 10. My husband was less impressed, but he is a man and he likes manly movies like SCI-Fi or action movies.
The cinema at Printworks is huge, as I said earlier, the screen for Manchester by the Sea was in the 3rd floor. There are plenty of options, with lots of movies available at the same time.

We both enjoyed our dinner&movie date night at Printworks and definitely we will have other date-nights there. With so many restaurants to chose from, plenty of movies and bars to have a drink after the movie.
