Today I’m going to the stately home. I’m doing volunteer work for the first task this year. I’ve also signed up for a couple of Sundays each month for the next 2-3 months. You might be asking why I’m writing about volunteering. Well, the first reason is that it’s something important for me and my blog is a dairy too. The second reason is that I might inspire you, my readers to try it.
This will be my outfit for the Spring-Summer season. You can see more about the special things we do in the Christmas season in a post I wrote about that.
Volunteering at a stately home as a room guide is fun. It involves working with others, it might also involve doing special activities with children. When we’ll have the teddy bear trail up, I’m going to have to learn where are all the teddies. If someone asks, I should be able to tell them.
All the room guides know about the history of the house and of the family. We also need to know about different exhibits, including paintings. It’s such a great way to learn about the local history and being involved in the local community too.
When I was living in Wirral, I was a volunteer at Friends of Birkenhead Council Kennels. I attended fairs and went on fundraising and raising awareness events. I was a volunteer there from late 2012 to 2014. Besides these events, I was walking the dogs once a week. It was incredibly emotional and a rewarding thing to do.
Last year, in December, I was involved with another charity. I did some research and I found it fascinating and exciting. I loved doing those tasks. The work was done for this year, to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the WWI. I did look into documents at the Liverpool Archives and it was thrilling to discover what I was looking for in those old books. Again, I learned a bit about the local history and personalities.
If this is not something that might interest you, there are many other places where you can do a bit of volunteering work. For example, if you live in Liverpool, LightNight is happening in May and they are looking for volunteering. It’s only a day, not something recurring, it’s different and nice. With so many options, you surely can find something you might like to try.

I hope you enjoy the volunteering. My Dad (not long turned 80!) used to volunteer at a nearby National Trust property and recently started volunteering at a nearby English Heritage property. He really enjoys it 🙂
this sounds like a really interesting thing to be involved in – the outfit looks fantastic. i volunteer with my church and at my son’s school but would love to get more involved with my local community

I think volunteering is super important but then I would as I currently have 4 volunteer roles and have done lots more in the past too. I hope you enjoy this next challenge. Mich x
