We are in the process of renovating our bathroom. Because of its small size we had to think outside the box. Our kitchen looks amazing and unusual because we thought a lot about how to renovate it. We bought our home 10 years ago and we’ve renovated the bathroom when we bought it. The house was a project, so we had to be fast so we could move from our rented home (and stop paying for rent, which was putting a strain on our finance, naturally). Now we have a huge renovation project on the way.

This is how our bathroom looked like before we’ve started our renovation. The pictures were rushed so a bit unclear. The bathroom scales were not there, but under the bathtub and we didn’t keep stuff on the window sill. We had plants on and off.
The bathroom was white, clean, and simple. On the picture on the right there are 2 recesses in the wall, painted dark blue. One recess is visible while the second one was behind the mirror. The skirting is too painted dark blue.
The top recess held fresh towels above & extra toilet paper rolls below. It was both handy for storage and it looked nice. The unseen recess, behind the mirror, was used to store what is needed in the bathroom, from toothpaste and toothbrushes to face masks. The mirror acted as a door.
The new bathroom will be 100% different. We will not have a bathtub, but a shower, the whole wall with the window will be changed. On top of that, we removed the door and the wall with the hallway. We will have a pocket door in its place. Pocket doors are the ones that slide into the wall, hence we currently don’t have a wall any more.
Instead of 2 big recesses, we will have a few more, smaller, and each will serve a different purpose. There will be one for the soap dish, another one for the liquid hand soap, near the sink. On the shower enclosure there will be at least 3 recesses, different sizes for different purposes – shower gel, shampoo, and so on. We will also have a douche installed, so the new toilet will be used as a bidet too. We don’t have enough space to install a bidet, so a douche is the perfect solution.
The towel rails will be replaced by a black radiator towel rail. We got that delivered and it looks lovely.

I want to embellish some features with mosaic, like at the back of the recesses. I am in love with this gorgeous pebble mosaic from Porcelanosa. They also have a gorgeous metallic mosaic, but I think we are going for pebbles instead.

I’m looking forward to seeing the result!
I had to Google “pocket door” as I didn’t know what they were, but what a good idea. And yes, definitely go for the Porcelanosa, they’re gorgeous.
I look forward to seeing the end result! My son-in-law recently installed a pocket door for their bathroom and they are very pleased with it.
I will blog about the end result. It’s nice to hear that the pocket door works for them, it’s reassuring.
Despite the small size of British homes, pocket doors are not a thing here. I saw one in Italy, when we rented an apartment, and loved the idea. It saves so much space, I am very excited about it.
