Sheffield

On Sunday we’ve been to Sheffield for the day as I wanted to see some temporary exhibitions at Tour de Yorkshire Festival. I don’t have any pictures from the galleries, obviously, but I have a lot of pictures from Sheffield. It was the second time we’ve been there, as the first time was last week, for another gallery/shop and talk with some artists.

01 Sheffield

We’ve started with Millennium Gallery where we saw a photographic exhibition.

02 Sheffield

It was interesting, I particularly liked a portrait of a newly mum and her son, when she gave birth taken by her husband. The emotion and the love was palpable, just amazing. The exhibit it still on until August, so go and have a look if you are in Sheffield.
The Winter Gardens were lovely. There are some coffee shops, a couple of small independent shops and beautiful plants and flowers.

This Strelitzia is so beautiful. The plant is so big, is like a bush type and full with flowers.

After the Winter Gardens we’ve walked around Sheffield.

Catholic Cathedral Church of St. Marie Sheffield

We’ve visited the Catholic Cathedral Church of St. Marie. On Sunday there are free guided tours. We arrived a little late, but the guide was there and we could ask him a few questions. The Church is Victorian, so relatively new, but it still has an interesting history.

We walked on Chapel Walk to a temporary gallery. I was intrigued by a painting, dark, but meaningful. I don’t have any pictures.

Andrews Cafe Tea Rooms Sheffield

We’ve stopped at Andrews Cafe Tea Rooms, next to the gallery. It was close to closing time and we didn’t order food, but we had yummy cakes. Hubby tried the Victoria Sponge and I had Chocolate cake. Both cakes were good, moist, mine wasn’t too sweet, exactly as I like it. Hubby was a little upset that his Victoria Sponge had raspberry jam and he is not very found of raspberries.

Sheffield Cathedral

We’ve stopped at Sheffield Cathedral. It has a beautiful architecture. We weren’t able to take pictures as the choir was singing. If I visit Sheffield again, I’m going to take pictures then.

  1. I’ve never been to Sheffield before, but it looks a pretty place. I might have to get the train there someday this summer.
