Last week we had lunch at The Inn On The Wharf, a lovely pub in Burnley. I mentioned in my previous post that the pub is housed in an old warehouse, just beside the canal. Cotton and other fibers would have been stored here, before being shipped to nearby mills. The warehouse was built in early 1800s. It was used as a building materials shop, until 25 years ago when it was transformed into this beautiful pub. In the same building as the pub it’s a small museum that should be very interesting, but it was closed on the day.
The pub looks beautiful on the outside too. There are a few more pictures at the end of the post. The interior is a mixture of old features along with some memorabilia hanged on walls. It’s very nice. The staff was friendly and another guest told us the history of the pub when we asked, as the staff was not sure about the details. It’s a nice atmosphere.
Isn’t that fireplace with the stove just beautiful? I wish there was a leaflet with details, as it’s so beautiful.
We had a coffee at The Inn On The Wharf and then decided to order lunch after browsing the main menu.
My husband ordered vegetarian Lasagne. The dish was served with garlic baguette and salad. It was delicious, as we’ve decided to share both plates. The mushrooms and courgettes were so well cooked, still with a little bit of crunch, and the lasagne had plenty of cheese. I enjoyed it a lot.
I picked cheese and onion pie with mash potatoes and veggies. The pie came with a smooth mash and perfectly cooked carrots and broccoli. As for the pie, it was delicious, the pastry was fab, plenty of cheese and the delicious onions, a bit sweet. I enjoyed it a lot, if I was to go for lunch at The Inn On The Wharf today, I would choose cheese and onion pie again.
We took a couple more pictures in the pub before we left. I think there are a couple of tables on the banks of the Leeds & Liverpool canal during the summer.
We both enjoyed the food, the staff was friendly and the prices are amazing too. The pie was £7.50 and the Lasagne was £6.25. It’s great value for money.
Have you been to Burnley or The Inn On The Wharf ?
This is such a lovely pub with great atmosphere. I have not been there before but I’m still one day I will pop by!
I’ve never eaten at the Inn on the Wharf, but I’ve been *through* it!
We took a canal boat trip, and the setting off point was at the back of the pub – it took me a couple of minutes to recognise it from your pictures then it clicked!
The food looks great though, will definitely eat next time!
