The Bear is a pub in Oxford, but it’s very special because it is the oldest pub in the city, established in 1242, according to them. They have a garden too, but we stayed inside. It’s a wonderful place to have a drink, do make sure you stop there if you are in Oxford.
As one can expect, inside it is very small and full of character. The decor is lovely and it was very busy on a weekday when we went.
The tradition of leaving ties started in the early 1900s. They represent clubs in Oxford, but many are from around UK and all over the world too.
Just beside my seat was this tie from KCL. What a lovely coincidence.
There are ties on the ceiling too.
The Bear in Oxford is on 6 Alfred Street, Oxford, Oxfordshire, OX1 4EH.
I don’t remember visiting that pub the summer I spent in Oxford. I don’t think I would forget all those ties! I spent a lot of spare time in a place called The Turf Tavern.

Those ties are memorable, aren’t they? I will see if I can make my husband renounce at one next time we are going to Oxford.
I have BEEN there! It was a fun place — loved the chopped off ties (and was glad Rick hadn’t worn one … I wonder when he last wore a tie!). It was a good cozy spot and the food was pretty good, too!
That’s a fun coincidence. I think it would have been nice to leave a tie from US. :))
