Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red is an art installation at the Tower of London to mark the centenary of WW1.
When it will be finished, there will be 1 poppy for every British military fatality in the WW1, that means 888,246 poppies. I saw a lot of pictures, but seen it in real life is different. There are so many poppies and it’s beautiful and sad at the same time.
The ceramic poppies are handmade at Paul Cummins’ studio. The poppies are planted by volunteers, I would have got involved if I would have been in London. It’s amazing that the potters have been hand-making the pieces using techniques which were utilised by potters during the First World War.
The art installation is not finished, it will be ready for Remembrance Day. The last poppy will be planted on 11th November.
I’m so keen to go to this installation – saw it on Lisa’s blog and it’s firmly pencilled in for my next free weekend! x
That’s great. You will like it xo
