Restaurants & Pubs Reviews

The Oxford Blue

The Oxford Blue is a new vegan pub in Oxford. They just opened, in late March, and we’ve been there a few times. We had a meeting with the Vegan Society and I also went there with my husband a few times. Because it was busy when I arrived for the first time I didn’t take pictures of the outside and then forgot about it. I will share a screenshot of one of their Instagram posts with how it looks inside, but do check their account where they talk about the events they do, like markets for local artists, and football nights this month when England plays in the Euros.

pizza at The Oxford Blue

They source all their ingredients locally and they use as much as possible from each one. They also forage for some, which is amazing. They do pizzas, which are great. I like that they have a few of them, but without adding too many options. This means people can choose from quite a few things and don’t wait too long for them either.

pizza

We usually go for a pizza to share and two more sharing plates, the Arancini on a bed of pea puree with onions and the charred leek dip.

pizza and sharing plates

As you can see, the same sharing plates, but with a different pizza. I love both the Arancini and the leek dip. The leeks are used entirely. They cut thinly the stems and fry and sprinkle them on top, as both decor and a bit of crunchiness. I could easily have that weekly and not get bored at all. They also have chips and loaded fries and soup.

When it comes to pizzas, people can chose between 6 options, which is really great. I prefer Forage with mushrooms and truffle. My husband likes to try the others too. They also have 4 dips for pizzas, 3 types of mayo and pesto.

On a Sunday they do roasts, but we didn’t go on a Sunday thus far.

creme brulee

One of the desserts they have on offer, the Creme Brulee with rhubarb on top. It is a bit thick in consistence, but I loved it and I would have it again without any doubt.
They also do a skillet cookie with ice cream on top. I haven’t tried that, but a friend said that it is amazing.

The decorations are beautiful too. Do stop by them if you are in Oxford. They are not in the city centre, but the staff is so nice and the food is just amazing.

  1. All of this looks really tasty. The rhubarb on the creme brûlée sounds interesting. I don’t have to be as jealous of your post today since I ate at a Vegan Bistro today myself!

    1. That sounds amazing. I hope you will write about it because I am very curious how a vegan place fairs in US.
