Itadakizen Shrewsbury

Itadakizen is a vegan restaurant in Shrewsbury. Luckily we thought of booking before visiting, as we wanted to visit for an early dinner just before heading back home. While we were having our dinner, only 1 small table was not previously booked and it was quickly filled. They had to turn down about 4-5 groups while we were there. It was a Saturday night, but it just shows how impressive the restaurant is. The staff was very friendly and lovely. We had a good time.

The location is very good, close to the city centre.

decor

The decor is wonderful. I was able to take a picture as we arrived 5 minutes after it opened. In a few minutes these tables will be full.

drinks

I had a Sour Plum cocktail and my husband had Sasou tea, which is a mix of bamboo leaves and roasted buckwheat. My cocktail was made with plum wine. It was lighter than a standard cocktail and very good.

We both went for the Bento box, which is great if you are not familiar with all the Japanese dishes on offer. The box is a mix of gyoza, mushroom and aonori tempura, salad, tofu, rice, pickles. I really liked it and I would order the same if I visit them again. What I liked was the

dessert

For dessert, we had 2 different ones, to share. The one on the picture above is Kuromatsu dango, rice dumplings with syrup. The one below is a black sesame panna cotta. Both were interesting, but I think I would order the Kuromatsu dango again, as I liked it better. The panna cotta was a bit too set for my taste.

The restaurant also has a small space where people can buy authentic Japanese food items and there are also things like beautiful crockery. I highly recommend stopping by this place, with prior reservation, of course, if you are in Shrewsbury.

  1. Oh wow – that looks fantastic!! I may just have to find where Shrewsbury is and put it on the ever growing itinerary that my sister and I have in our fantasy family history tour!!

    1. Yes, I was very impressed too by how popular it is, off season. I imagine that during the summer a reservation needs to be made at least a few days in advance.
