LFC

On Monday Liverpool FC celebrated their victory. We went to see it, had lunch at our favourite vegan place – The Vibe, before waiting for a couple of hours for the bus to arrive. It was such an interesting experience, with lots of people chanting the club’s songs and a truly multicultural and diverse event. It was so wonderful to see how strangers talked and interacted. We were only a few minutes away from Water Street, on the main road where the bus was passing.

As we were taking pictures of the trophy or soon after, the attack/incident on Water Street happened. After seeing the clips (I recommend against watching them as they are distressing), my assumption was that it was a terrorist attack. The driver deliberately targeted the crowd, injuring 47 people. Merseyside police said that it is not, although no motive was given. They said that the perpetrator is white and that they are not considering it to be a terrorist attack, which I find quite racist. White people can do terrorist attacks and one happened in London, Finsbury Park 2017. Now, 2 days after it happened, it is still unclear what were the motivations. The police messed up big and the incident shouldn’t have happened if the streets were closed as they were supposed to be.
That being said, I am sharing pictures from the event.

  1. I was thinking of you when I heard about the attacks so I’m glad you were OK. We were up north at the time also.
I agree about the non Terrorist thing. Far right leanings should be considered as such also.

  2. What a great day out and experience until the incident happened. I instantly thought it was a terror attack but the colour of the persons skin doesn’t really make a difference. White people can be terrorists too. I read that the driver creeped in to the closed off area behind an ambulance. I am so glad you were safe.

  3. I’m so glad you weren’t where the incident took place, though I’m sorry for those who were. It was horrific and our media persists in showing clips of things with a trite warning “they might be disturbing”. Whether it is determined to be terror related or not, just the fact it was premeditated (as opposed to a medical emergency) is bad enough. It’s heartbreaking.

    1. I am used to seeing more graphic stuff, so I knew before watching it that I can handle it. I wanted to know what happened, as I was still in the area, stuck in our car. But this is not the case for most people.
It is heartbreaking that this happened.
