Shop fronts in Lviv, in February

Shop fronts in Lviv is the second post I write about Lviv, after the previous Walk through Lviv. I did not imagine that I would want to post about this, but seeing so many beautiful places, I took a few pictures and I am sharing them today. So this post might be followed by a similar one in a few months. I didn’t even take pictures of the stunning shops in the old centre of the city, where the Town Hall is. There is only a picture of a restaurant from there, the last one in this post.

Shop fronts in Lviv

How gorgeous is this shop front? I love the fact that these decorations, all of them, are still as pretty as on the day they were installed. There is a respect for the work of others that I have to say, it’s missing from other parts of the world, including the western one. I was also impressed how creative this was made. It is only fabric, beautifully draped, but it is not expensive. This creativity and making things with great impact with low budgets is something that happens often in Ukraine.

street

This is a regular street where the vegetarian shop is. I took this picture because I love the look of it. It is clean and beautiful. On the right is a beautiful display with the pink balloons. On the left there are trees, very well taken care of, and those bows on the walls. The bows were popular, as I saw red ones and pink, as you can see one in the picture below, on the left. The street below is Dzhokhar Dudayev Street, a Chechen leader who said “russia will disappear when the Ukrainian sun rises”. He was killed by the russians in 1996, during the first Chechen war. He is remembered in Ukraine and not only in Lviv.

park

This small park is in front of the church where the funerals for soldiers are taking place. The shop has a lovely, minimalist pink decoration around its door. There are bird houses in the park, which I think it’s lovely.

armour shop

The armour shop was not easy to photograph. On the left is a man with armour, in the middle is armour for a police officer, while on the right is an armour for a woman. There is a noticeable difference between the man and the woman’s armour. I like that women in the army are so accepted that a specialised shop like this not only has the specific armour in shop, but it is also proud to display it in the window. I found that impressive.

flower shop

A flower shop with stunning bouquets and a gorgeous shop front too. I passed by this shop almost every day because it was close to my hotel. It was so beautiful to see.

restaurant

The restaurant has a beautiful entrance. I did not take a closer picture because it was so popular with couples, but it is clear how beautiful it is. There are hearts of different sizes and a teddy bear on the left. There is a huge teddy bear in the middle, where the couples are having their picture taken by their friends.

Which shop display is your favourite?

  1. These photos are so beautiful, it’s hard to pick a favorite (although that florist is calling my name!) And I love the photo of the street with the tall pointy buildings on the left. It’s a lovely city! I admire the lights on the restaurant too — were you there around Valentine’s day? I noticed the hearts!

  2. It really is wonderful how clean everything is! The displays are all so different, it’s difficult to pick a favorite. I really like the bow with the drapery in the top photo. It seems like rain would quickly ruin something like that, but maybe they don’t get much rain there.

    1. That’s a very good point, on the rain. It snowed a bit when I was there, but no rain. There were also many days with frost in the morning, I wonder if the material was water resistant in any way. Hmmm, it makes me wonder.

  3. I do like the dramatic red curtains and bow but the last one is gorgeous!! They made a real effort!!! Your photos are a source of historical evidence!
