In front of St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv there is a wonderful display of children paintings. The cathedral was built in mid-18th century, on the site of two previous churches. The first religious building on the site dates from the 1200s. The cathedral is beautiful and it was filled with parishioners, which I didn’t expect considering that I went there on a Tuesday morning. On the site there is a lovely café where I stopped for refreshments.

If you notice in front of the church there are paintings. These were made by children from different schools and by the group of children I am volunteering with. I am sharing pictures with some them, as there were so many it would be a post too long to include all.
Some of the paintings were made while the air alert syren was on. These paintings have been here for months, intact, cherished, looked at, respected.

The styles of painting differ because the age and artistic inclinations of the children and teenagers painting are different. There are also adults who paint, helping the children to express themselves and to learn how to paint. Some of the older children, the ones who are 15 to 17, are very talented and produce paintings that seem similar to ones made by adults.

After seeing the paintings I decided to go for some juice at the church cafe. After that I went to visit the church. Because of service I was not able to see the building properly, but it looks stunning from what I saw. There is only a picture from inside.

I am not usually taking pictures in church if people are at service. This is my usual approach of making sure people have their own privacy. I took a few pictures in the church because I wanted show how many people were attending services on a Tuesday.

Wow – such talent and colour! Thank you for sharing.
My goodness, the children are talented in terms of both their paintings, choices of colour combinations and what they actually chose to paint! So impressive.
St. George’s Cathedral looks beautiful!
St. George’s Cathedral is beautiful and how lovely to have the children’s paintings out front. It makes me smile and happy that even at war there is so much hope and positivity in Ukraine. They really have some very talented artists.
