After living for over a decade in and around Liverpool I didn’t imagine that I will write a post entitled – Tourist in Liverpool: Bus and Ferry tours. Well, until now I didn’t do this. It was one of the things I wanted to do, but kept postponing. After having a chat with a friend who came to Liverpool for the first time, I said that I need to go and do touristy stuff in Liverpool, as I did when I moved here.

My husband and I went on a bus tour and on the ferry tour and it was lovely. I highly recommend them to all tourists visiting the city. The bus guide was really good and funny. There are 2 tours, one with Beatles and one of the city. Only part of it is on the same route, so it is worth doing both if you are a Beatles fan. If not, do only the city one.

The ferry is nice too, talking about the history of Liverpool and Mersey. The ferry has the camouflage it had during WW1. Camo is used to conceal an asset, but this dazzle camouflage is not doing that. It’s purpose is to make it difficult to estimate a target’s range, speed and direction. It can be black & white or in colour.
There was a ferry service on the Mersey since the early 1000s, when monks from Birkenhead priory were transporting people and cargo over the river. Today there are 2 tunnels underneath the river, but the ferry still works. There are 2 ferries, one is this 1h cruise and there is a commuter ferry, every 20 minutes, which takes people to the Wirral in just 10 minutes and it is only £3.

Both of us had a lovely time. It is nice to be a tourist in your own city, especially if you lived there for a long time. Do go on these tours if you are visiting Liverpool.

My friend has recently moved to the Liverpool region and has said we should come and stay AND that she needs to explore it a bit so maybe this is a good option for her and us!
I think it’s great that you finally did this. There are so many places right here in my own state that I’ve never visited and should. It looks like a beautiful city.

Liverpool it is a beautiful city indeed, lots to explore.
I think it is such fun to be a tourist in your own city. The tours sound fantastic. My dad is a huge Beatles fan and keeps saying he wants to visit to do the Beatles tour. x

I never knew that about the camo on the ferry during the war. But when you mentioned the Mersey, I though of Gerry and the Pacemakers’ song “Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey.” Thanks for this view. It looks like a lovely city.
