Unbroken

I had the opportunity to visit the National Rehabilitation Center Unbroken, in Lviv. It is a remarkable place. I also got to meet a few of the soldiers who were getting treatment in the centre. The stories of Vadim and Artem, pictured below, were inspirational. They are both incredibly strong. One of them was in russian captivity for a long time. Now both had amputations, but, despite that, they want to get better as fast as possible and to return on the frontline to defend their country. It was a privilege to talk to them.
Unbroken so far helped over 17,000 Ukrainians wounded by the russians. The Center provides physical, psychological, and psychosocial rehabilitation for those who were affected by russian military aggression against Ukraine, both military and civilian.

The physical treatment includes surgery (for example reconstructive surgery), orthopedics, and robotic prosthetics. Unbroken both installs and manufactures prosthetics. Rehabilitation services are available to patients who need rehabilitation due to other injuries and illnesses. It includes an array of options, such as yoga classes and arts (painting).

The centre is still in development and there is a picture with their plans. They need donations to make sure they are able to build the new facilities. Some were already built, including a glass bridge which was done in 3 months. Read more on their website.

The old hospital, which is now transformed into the rehabilitation center.

The glass bridge I mentioned, built in 3 months, between two wings of the hospital.

A map of how it will look when finished and the status of the buildings so far.

One of the many gyms they have on site.

Terrace used for patients and their families. This is where they have various activities as well.

An art gallery, with items on sale to raise funds for the centre.

  1. This looks lovely and so needed, especially for a country in the midst of war. Zelinsky is here in the US now, meeting with the president and both candidates. I suspect his meeting with Trump will not be so fruitful.
