Unity Diner is a vegan restaurant in London which is a must for anyone who loves fish & chips, but without the killing of fish part. Founded in September 2018, Unity Diner makes a difference in many ways. One of the friends who started this endeavour is vegan educator Earthling Ed. This is a for-profit business with a caveat though, as the profits are going into animal rights work, which includes a sanctuary opened in 2020.
Of course, the ethos is shown in everything they do because:
– staff uniforms & merchandise is ethically made, organic cotton, using chemical-free vegan ink
– takeaway containers & coffee cups are biodegradable
– any suitable food waste is donated to rescued animals
You can book a table from their website and check more about the sanctuary. I would highly suggest booking a table as when we went there there was no availability for walk-ins.
Now, let’s talk about food & drink.

This delicious cocktail is called: piers morgan’s tears – gin, pea flower tea, coconut liqueur, peach syrup, lime, tonic. Yes, it’s well worth getting and I imagine quite popular.
We ordered a few plates to share. All were amazingly delicious. I loved the tofish and I would gladly eat that again, which I will, as soon as I’m back in London.

prawn tempura – prawnz coated in our crispy tempura batter, dressed with garlic aioli

fried corn smothered in garlic butter, tossed with fresh rosemary & dusted in paprika, served with aioli

mozzarella sticks – coconut-based mozzarella cheeze sticks coated in a herby panko crumb, served with be-saucey basil mayo

tofish & chips – the UD signature beer-battered tofish cod & chunky chips, served with mushy peas, legendary UD tartare sauce + a lemon wedge
The desserts were both amazing, as well.

raspberry frangipane – which is also gluten-free – almond & raspberry frangipane topped with toasted almond flakes + fresh raspberries

ice cream waffles – sweet ice cream waffle loaded with baby marshmallows, maple syrup & topped with whipped soya cream
Unity Diner is on 60 Wentworth St, Spitalfields, E1 7AL, London. The nearest tube stations are Aldgate East and Liverpool Street, both a few minutes away.

This all looks great! I’m also please to read they do gluten-free dishes too 🙂
It’s amazing that the leftover food is given to animals. Food waste is a real problem so disposing of leftover food smartly is great. The waffles look really good!
I hope you have a lovely and sunny Sunday Anca 🙂

I would love to try this. It all looks so good! Funny thing is, in my earlier life I never liked any type of seafood and only ate fried catfish (a staple in the south) on rare occasions… but now I love “fishless fish”!

It’s the same with me. I didn’t like fish before, but now I love all the fake-fish. It’s strange, isn’t it? :))
