mid-August update

Volya

I made a small collage with pictures of Volya taken in August. She is such a sweetheart, goes out in the garden almost daily. We also went out for a walk, in a park. It was a bit crowded for her, so she spent most of time in her carrier. We went to get some desserts and the people in the queue noticed her. She likes the attention.
Also she loves soups, as a true Ukrainian. Finding cat soups can be tricky as not all places sell them, so I stock up when I find some.

us troops arranging the red carpet for a war criminal

I am often asked what I will do if the russian aggression in Ukraine ends, as trump might broker a peace deal. That is not going to happen as long as American soldiers are on their knees arranging the red carpet for a war criminal with an ICC arrest warrant.

When the war ends, I will still go to Ukraine, for as long as I can, like now. The aftermath of these years of fighting will stay with the Ukrainians for generations. It is a genocidal war and that leaves a mark. As before I will volunteer with children, I will spend more time at the animal shelter from where I got Volya and go to 2 others I follow online. In addition to that, I will start working with veterans. Now that I’m in the UK, I miss Ukraine very much. My next trip will be in a few months though, which seems like such a long time away.

porch

The porch renovation is going well. The wall is almost up and after that everything will go faster. We already have the door, which is one of the things that takes a lot of time to get delivered.

coffee

I brought some drip coffee from Ukraine with funny designs, such as this one.

Alchemist

We’ve been to the Alchemist for drinks and snacks and it was amazing, as always. The bottom right picture is of a cocktail that has electricity.

Leighton Hall

We also went to see Leighton Hall, a private home which can be visited a few days a week in August. They had a lovely cafe, but nothing vegan unfortunately. I enjoyed the garden, the tour of the house, and the birds of prey display too. I shared 2 collages with it, instead of doing a dedicated post for it.

  1. Volya is a lovely, lucky girl. Popping in from blog break to say hello. I fear an end will be a long time coming. DT is pretending to play both sides of the table but he’s in Putin’s pocket. I fear for our country every single day, and our way of life. If I ever won the lotto big, I know I’d buy weapons for Ukraine.

  2. Those drinks look stunning, I love a good cocktail. I’m sure your volunteering in the Ukraine will continue for many years fort all the reasons you have stated and more.
Yes, Pushkins hates her basket, she’s not been in the car (other than the annual vets trip) for a long time. We’ve had cat sitters for the past 4 years while we’ve travelled, this is the first time we’ve had to take her anywhere.

  3. Lovely photos of Volya, she looks very happy with her cat soups.
I’m glad that you still want to continue your volunteering in Ukraine; you always sound so passionate about it.
I can relate to that cat on the coffee package!

  4. So many fun things in this post! The Alchemist looks like a really neat place to visit. I like seeing the raptors, too.
Volya looks so offended in the photo after being brushed. 😂

    1. She doesn’t like being brushed, which is not ideal considering her hair. She is trying to avoid the whole thing and she is annoyed when we persist, but she is not scratching us. So far we bought many brushes between us, trying to see if we find the “right” one.
